Castel Farm Eggs

St Andrew·Shop

Story

Nearly closed in 2023 after Environmental Health linked fly infestations in St Andrew and St Martin parishes to bird excrement at the farm. Court-ordered closure was averted when James and Jessica Rihoy purchased the business, taking control January 2024. They installed automatic scraper systems to address waste management.

Castel Farm Eggs is a family-run free-range poultry farm at La Vassalerie, St Andrew, producing approximately 8,000 eggs per day from a flock of over 8,000 chickens, with plans to expand to 16,000 birds. It is Guernsey's only major commercial egg producer, supplying local retailers across the Channel Islands. Operating as a limited company, the farm is owned by James and Jessica Rihoy, who purchased the business in January 2024 after it narrowly avoided a court-ordered closure in 2023 following fly infestation complaints.
