Story
Established 1920 when States took control and created the States Water Board. In 1960, opened the first desalination plant in the British Isles at La Hure Mare. In 2004, merged into Public Services Department. In 2012, water and wastewater functions combined under the Guernsey Water brand. In 2016, became part of States of Guernsey Trading Assets. In 2019, Juas water treatment works commissioned.
Guernsey Water is a States of Guernsey government-owned utility established in 1920, responsible for water supply, treatment, and wastewater management. Operating from Brickfield House in St Andrew, it serves around 26,500 customers via 500 km of water pipes, 300 km of wastewater pipes, 14 reservoirs, 3 treatment works, and 58 pumping stations. Services include cesspit emptying, leak detection, surface water management, catchment protection, and school education programmes. —
