Founded by lifelong friends Thomas Guille and Frederick Allès; building opened in 1888; has been at the heart of island life for over 140 years
Guille-Allès Library is Guernsey's public library, founded in 1882 by Thomas Guille and Frederick Allès with its building opening in 1888. Based in Market Street, St Peter Port, it holds over 100,000 books, audiobooks, and DVDs. In 2025 it recorded 162,825 visits and nearly 150,000 loans. Services include eBooks, digital newspapers, a Fab Lab maker space offering 3D printing and digital design, a children's library, book clubs, and community events. It is an independent institution governed by a Board of Management, supported by an annual States of Guernsey grant. —
