Founded in 1980 as Guernsey Air Search by Captain Roger Dadd and colleagues from Guernsey Airlines. First aircraft was a Piper Aztec on loan from Guernsey Airlines, later purchased with Lions Club funding. Aircraft cost over GBP 2.7 million; FLIR camera cost GBP 240,000; hangar cost GBP 150,000. Channel Islands Air Search is a voluntary charitable organisation providing a rapid response airborne search and rescue service in Channel Island waters. The organisation is a wholly voluntary one, with many of its aircrew serving corporate and commercial pilots. It covers 4,000 square miles of water surrounding the Channel Islands and the adjacent French coast.
