Christian community on the site since c.600 AD. Benedictine priory established c.968 AD by monks from Mont Saint-Michel. Present church dedicated 1117. Priory fell into disuse c.1414. Six bells recast 1891 by John Warner & Sons London. Clock with four faces installed 1898 for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. Church records date back to 1580.
