Christian community on the site since c.600 AD. Benedictine priory established c.968 AD by monks from Mont Saint-Michel. Present church dedicated 1117. Priory fell into disuse c.1414. Six bells recast 1891 by John Warner & Sons London. Clock with four faces installed 1898 for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. Church records date back to 1580. Services were partly in French until the 1920s.
St Michel du Valle is the Church of England parish church of Vale, of moderate Catholic tradition, dedicated in 1117 on a site of Christian worship since c.600 AD. A Benedictine priory was established here c.968 AD by monks from Mont Saint-Michel. The church provides regular Eucharist, Morning Prayer, and Bible Study, as well as weddings, funerals, baptisms, and bell ringing. Room hire is available at Vale Church Hall and the Norman Room.
