St Peter Port

Story

Earliest recorded religious building on site dates to 1020; current building largely completed by 1466 with spire and stair turret finished 1466-1473. Scene of the 1556 trial of the Guernsey Martyrs. Church has been Anglican since 1662. Regimental colours of the Town Regiment of the Royal Guernsey Militia (1337-1946) and Royal Guernsey Light Infantry are hung inside. Guinness World Records lists it as the closest church to a pub in Great Britain (18 inches). (inferred from the source page)
