Set up in March 2016 with support of Alderney Wildlife Trust. Became Alderney Bird Observatory Ltd in April 2019. Featured on BBC Countryfile on 15 May 2016. In first year recorded 180 species including 5 new to the island, and ringed 13,000 birds including 777 storm petrels and 500 gannets.
Alderney Bird Observatory is a Channel Islands-registered charity and limited company established in 2016, becoming the 20th accredited bird observatory in the British Isles. Based at Telegraph House on Alderney, it focuses on bird science, conservation, and education through station-based monitoring, bird ringing, and census research. Services include guided birdwatching and wildlife walks, seabird colony monitoring, moth trapping, and educational talks. Notable species monitored include gannets at Les Etacs, storm petrels, and a Bearded Vulture sighting in 2020. —
