Story

St Peter Port is the largest parish in Guernsey and the largest administration outside the States of Guernsey, with over 1000 years of history as capital of the Bailiwick. The role of Constable has existed since 1481. Constables are required to attend the Court of Chief Pleas on the first Monday in October each year.

Constables of St Peter Port is the elected parish administration for Guernsey's capital and largest parish. Governed by a Douzaine of 20 members — two Constables (elected for 1–3-year terms) and 18 Douzeniers (4-year terms) — it has administered the parish since at least 1481. Responsibilities include rates collection, refuse and recycling, cemetery administration, dog licences, boat moorings, hedge trimming oversight, and watercourse supervision.
