Story

Until 1806 the parish was divided by the sea at the Braye du Valle until the channel was drained in the 19th century.

Constables of the Vale is the Douzaine — the elected governing body for Vale parish, the most northerly and second-largest of Guernsey's ten parishes. The Douzaine comprises 16 elected parishioners led by a Senior Constable and Junior Constable, and is responsible for roads, hedges, watercourses, cemeteries, parish rates, dog licences, boat moorings, and refuse and recycling. The parish covers 3.4 square miles with around 10,000 residents and has been twinned with Barneville-Carteret, France, since 1989. —
