Story

Opened in 1978 combining collections from three former island museums. The design incorporates the old Victorian bandstand from the garden and won the British Museum of the Year Award in 1979. The Rona Cole Art Gallery was added in 2012, named after Helen Rona Cole, the first Director of Guernsey Museum.

Guernsey Museum & Art Gallery is a government-operated museum in Candie Gardens, St Peter Port. Opened in 1978 from three merged island collections, it covers archaeology, geology, natural history, social history, fine art, and folklore. The Rona Cole Art Gallery (2012), named after the first Director, adds dedicated fine art space. A family Discovery Room with Cabinet of Curiosities, Cafe Victoria, gift shop, and venue hire for up to 150 guests complete the offer. —

Open 7 days a week including bank holidays. 30 Jan - 24 Mar: 10:00-16:00; 25 Mar - 1 Nov: 10:00-17:00; 2 Nov - 31 Dec: 10:00-16:00. Closing 14:00 Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
