Story

Horseshoe pool built 1844, ladies and gents pools added 1870s, children's pool later. Originally built to compensate for loss of swimming facilities from St Peter Port harbour expansion. Historical visitors include Victor Hugo (1865-1870) and Monet (1883). Fell into disrepair, renovated by Vive La Vallette charity (est. 2019), new facilities opened June 2022.

La Vallette Bathing Pools is a historic outdoor saltwater attraction in St Peter Port comprising four tide-filled pools (Ladies', Gent's, Children's, and Horseshoe), a cafe with sea views, changing rooms with hot showers, a sun terrace, and event spaces including the Swallow Pavilion. Dating to 1844, the pools were renovated by Vive La Vallette charity (est. 2019) and reopened in June 2022. Owned by the States of Guernsey and operated by the charity, they offer free entry and naturally renew with each tide. —
