Longis Nature Reserve

Area includes WWII German anti-tank wall at Longis Bay and the 4th-century Roman fort 'The Nunnery'. Designated in 2003 via memorandum between Alderney Wildlife Trust, States of Alderney, and local landowners.

Longis Nature Reserve is Alderney's largest terrestrial nature reserve, covering 105 hectares across marine and intertidal zones, coastal heathland, scrub woodland, freshwater ponds, coastal grassland, and dune grassland. Established in 2003 via a memorandum with the States of Alderney and managed by the Alderney Wildlife Trust, it offers 3 miles of walking paths, two bird hides overlooking Longis and Mannez freshwater ponds, and admits visitors free of charge. — about this text
